Phototherapy, a Big Medical Invention
The medical world has been developing. And nowadays, there are many kinds of treatments, methods and equipment to heal certain illnesses and diseases. Among these great achievements, the phototherapy has become a popular method in treating many pains, diseases and disorders. The man who is known to be the father of phototherapy is named Nils Finsen, a Danish physician. The method is obtained from ancient literature. The ancient Indian tribes used sunlight and natural herb as the treatment for non-pigmented skin area. Buddhist and Chinese medical literature is also known to make similar healing methods.
Based on this big invention, nowadays, lights are controlled using specific devices to create certain amount and waves. There are many diseases that this so-called light therapy can cure like sleep disorders, neonatal jaundice, Parkinson’s disease, acne vulgaris and so many more. The application of this light therapy is divided into different specific parts such as the low level laser, near infra red treatment, ultraviolet and so on. Even though it is varied in types, low lever laser treatment and red light are the commonly used system with the light range between 620-660 nm.
For certain diseases that involve bacteria such as acne vulgaris, the light usage for three days has shown to decrease the bacteria pores up to 99.9%. And according to recent studies, the result will take time for three months to occur. Related to this field, the FDA has also approved the usage of light therapy as well as the light-wave system.
